‘Third wife involved in murder of Omar Khattab’

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The Dera Ismail Khan’s Police on Monday arrested a woman and two men in connection with her husband Omar Khattab Sherani’s killing, who was contesting for city’s mayorship in the local bodies’ elections.

The police suspecting that Anita, third wife of the Omar Khattab, is involved in her husband killing who was also the president of the Aami National Party of Dera Ismail Khan chapter.

Addressing a press conference, District Police Officer (DPO) Dera Ismail Khan Capt (retd) Najam Al Hasnain Liaqat said  that police has taken the Omar Khattab’s wife Anita along with Abdul Hakim, resident of South Waziristan, and Shafiq Afghani.  The police taken her wife into custody after  police confirmed her involvement after detailed investigation.

Anwering a question, Capt (retd) Najam Al Hasnain Liaqat said that there was no political or terrorist element involved in the incident, adding the incident was purely personal.

Explaining police approach, he said that it was a very high-profile case and a challenge for the police. Considering the incident as a challenge due to the postponement of the election by the Election Commission and security concerns after the incident, special teams were formed and worked for day and night to find out the real motives behind the incident. He thwarted a vicious attempt to paint the incident as political and terrorist.

He said that police have traced them with the help of modern scientific method of interrogation and mobile data of the accused. The arrested accused have confessed to the crime of murder on personal obstinacy in the preliminary investigation, district police chief said in his presser.

DSP Headquarters Asghar Ali Shah, DSP President Hafiz Muhammad Adnan, DSP City Abdul Rahim Gandapur, Inspector Pervez Shah and SHO Cantt Azeem Wazir were also present on the occasion.

It is to be mentioned here that Omar Khattab Sherani was killed by unknown armed men outside his house in Dera Ismail Khan a day before the local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Omar Khattab Sherani was contesting for city mayorship of Dera on Awami National Party’s ticket.
