Shah Nawaz Khan- a dedicated journalist turned lawyer

Sudden death news of most lovely Shah Nawaz Khan has shattered almost lawyers and journalists from Peshawar and rest of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Most recently he was enlisted amongst the lawyers of Supreme Court of Pakistan, after performing his professional responsibility as an advocate of Peshawar High Court for couple of years.

Due to cancer, Shah Nawaz commonly known or called Shah Nawaz Khan by his relatives and friends has lost his last breath on Friday ( May 21st 2021). Couple of years back he was diagnosed as cancer patient. Ironic, neither he was a smoker nor he had faced any other physical disease, when informed by doctors about the chronic deadly disease some two years ago. He however, fought the struggle for survival very bravely but in last a few days, he was surrendered.

Belong to a common lower middle class families, Shah Nawaz Khan had experienced very tough time of life. He had lost father when he was a college student and in a very teen age, he had looked after a family of two mothers and four sisters. Couple of years back, he had lost his step mother. Most recently, he had made himself too much satisfied when his younger sister married. Due to sisters responsibilities, he himself married later and now his three teen ager sons and widow left behind to mourn his sad demise.

During his study time, Shah Nawaz Khan had joined first an Urdu newspaper as a Reporter and later switched over to The Frontier Post-an English newspaper. However, somewhere in 1996 he had joined The Nation Peshawar bureau as a staff reporter, occupying the same office till September 2009. In mid of 90’s after completion of graduation, he got admission in a private Law College from where he had completed LLB. And after getting law degree, he had joined the most credible and respectable Barrister Zahoor Ul Haq as an assistant. Along with journalistic career, Shah Nawaz Khan had also joined the law as a practicing lawyer.

Due to his interests, he had left The Nation in September 2009 and had dedicated whole of his life to Bench and Bar. And finally, died as a lawyer, but still remembered and known as a journalist not only in lawyers fraternity but also amongst the journalist community of Peshawar and rest of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He remained very helpful for his colleagues from media but at the same time, he had proved himself very lovely amongst the lawyers community. And on such grounds, almost participants in his funeral (Namaz-i-Janaza) were unable to control tears in eyes.

Really, his sudden and sad demise is considered a great loss for both lawyers and journalist communities from all over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The generosity, sincerity and humanity of Shah Nawaz Khan could be judged of the fact that after going on bed, he had returned all advance payments to his clients. Even for the purpose, he had sold his motor car.

Due to his over one two decades long association, the author had established familiarity like elder brother of Shah Nawaz Khan. And on such ground, some of friends and fellows from different walk of life now extending condolences and sympathies Early on Saturday, US based journalist Nowsherwan Qalandar, politician turned industrialist Sartaj Ahmad Khan from Chitral, Sajid Shah from Shangla, Latif Khan from Upper Dir and several others from different parts of the country through telephonic calls condoled the sad demise of Shah Nawaz Khan.
