BUNER: Like other parts of the country, tourism activities also came to a halt in Buner due to coronavirus lockdown, but tourists have again started arriving at the picturesque valley after lifting of lockdown.

A tourist from Lahore, Umar Khalid said he has set off for a tour of Northern Areas after lifting of lockdown and he has visited Naran, Kaghan, Mansehra and many areas of Gilgit-Baltistan during the last one month, but he found Buner more fascinating than other tourist places. He said he found Buner more beautiful than his imagination as he had heard about its beauty from friends and seen some social media posts about it. He said he truly enjoyed the lovey scenes at Mahaban, Pir Baba, Kaleel Kandao, Deewana Baba and Chagharzai.

However, the tourist from Lahore said he found infrastructure of Buner weaker than other tourist resorts. He said the condition of roads is poor due to which tourists face difficulties. He appealed to the government to improve the condition of roads to further boost tourism and provide job opportunities to local people.

A local social activist, Tariq Zaman said the arrival of tourists is increasing after lifting of lockdown. He said many tourists decide against coming to Buner due to its dilapidated roads. He said tourism can be promoted further in the area by improving infrastructure and other facilities for tourists.

Tariq Zaman said Shaheeda Sar, Dak Sar, Sarkob, Tiraj Sar, Shahi Sar, Darga Cheena, Mahaban, Kaleel and Pir Baba are special tourist sites in Buner. He said although the government has done some work on Mahaban camping pods, Shaheeda Sar camping pods and road leading to Dak Sar, but still a lot of work needs to be done. He said coronavirus lockdown also impacted the pace of construction work on roads.

Local members of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Riaz Khan and Syed Fakhar Jehan Bacha said they are fully utilizing available funds for development projects in their constituencies. They said Rs1 billion were provided by the government for beautification of Buner that are being spent on Mahaban camping pods, Shaheeda Sar camping pods and Dak Sar road.
