Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reports 194 coronavirus deaths as confirmed cases reach 3,499

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported nine more deaths and 211 new cases of the novel coronavirus.
According to latest data shared by KP Health Department, the death toll in the province stands at 194 and infections stand at 3,499. Out of total nine confirmed deaths on Tuesday, five were reported in Peshawar, which is the most affected district of KP with 119 deaths. One each death was also reported in Charsadda, Mardan, Mansehra and Haripur.
The total deaths in Peshawar now account for nearly two-thirds of total deaths in the province. The metropolis has also reported 1,380 confirmed cases, well over a third of the total cases in the province. Swat and Mardan are the other most affected districts with 14 and 10 deaths.
As many as 766 people have so far recovered from the disease in KP so far.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has cancelled the leaves of Home Department non-essential staff and directed them to return to work today (Wednesday) as the provincial government is considering easing the coronavirus lockdown.
“The competent authority is pleased to cancel the leave of un-essential staff of Home Department identified vide order dated 17/03/2020, 18/03/2020 and 19/03/2020 and direct them to attend their respective offices from tomorrow (Wednesday) onward i.e. 06/05/2020,” said the notification.
KP Chief Minister Mehmood Khan also held a meeting with traders and hinted that businesses will be allowed to reopen soon.
Schools are scheduled to open on June 01. However, amid the increasing number of coronavirus cases, it may be a difficult decision to go ahead with opening of schools.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country rose to 22,237 after different parts of the country reported new cases.
The total death toll in Pakistan now stands at 514, with KP reporting 194, Sindh 148, Balochistan 21, Gilgit-Baltistan three, Punjab 144 and Islamabad Capital Territory has reported four deaths.
According to latest data, Sindh has reported 8,189 cases, Punjab 8,133, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 3,499, Balochistan 1,495, Islamabad Capital Territory 464, Gilgit-Baltistan 386 and Azad Jammu and Kashmir has reported 71 cases.
A total of 5,635 people in Pakistan have recovered from coronavirus so far.
