Polio vaccination campaign in 11 districts of KP from Monday

PESHAWAR: The second phase of the five-day polio vaccination campaign in 11 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will begin on Monday.
The decision about launching the vaccination campaign has been taken after surfacing of new polio cases from Torghar district. The campaign will be launched in Torghar, Upper Kohistan, Lower Kohistan, Kolai Palas, Shangla, Battagram, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Charsadda and Mohmand districts and will continue till December 05. Immunisation of the left out children will also continue on December 06.
As many as 1,193,615 children in these districts below the age of five years will get polio vaccine drops by 4,534 mobile teams, 453 fixed teams, 195 transit teams and 38 roaming teams.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Peshawar Shahab Ali Shah directed the deputy commissioners of Charsadda and Mohmand tribal district and other concentred officials to take all necessary measures to make the immunisation campaign successful.
Addressing a meeting of divisional task force for polio eradication at his office on Friday, the commissioner directed the concerned officials to make sure that no child below the age of five years remains deprived of polio vaccination. He said special attention must be paid to the non-cooperating parents and those children who are travelling during the campaign.
The meeting also reviewed the report of the previous vaccination campaign in the area and also discussed preparations for the upcoming campaign. Deputy commissioners of Charsadda and Mohmand, officials of Police, Health, security and other departments attended the meeting.
Shahab Ali Shah directed the deputy commissioners and other officials to prepare a micro-level plan on the union council level to achieve the results of the vaccination campaign.
The special vaccination campaign is being launched after reports that Pakistan as recorded 100 polio cases this year. So far 91 cases of Polio Type-1 and Type-3 and nine cases of Type-2 have been surfaced in Pakistan this year.
Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only two countries in the world where polio could not be eradicated fully. The main reason behind emergence of recent polio cases in Pakistan is non-cooperation by parents with vaccination teams. The main focus on the vaccinators in the upcoming campaign will be to overcome this challenge.
