PESHAWAR— Edwards College faculty members on Monday urged authorities concerned to implement the ruling of Peshawar High Court of declaring the college as a nationalized and autonomous institute in letter and spirit.
Addressing a press conference here, Dr Gulzar Ahmad called for proper audit of the college funds and impartial inquiry into the financial and administrative irregularities in the college. Similarly he demanded of the authorities to terminate the service of Principal forthwith and an inquiry be initiated in this respect.
He said, while referring to the court judgment “ In view of privately managed schools and Colleges ; Regulations 1972 and the notification dated January 10, 1974 , the status of the Edwards college had already been declared to be a Nationalized Institution with its BOG headed by the Governor of the prince. The regulations was in turn accorded due protection by article 269 of the constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan 1973.
He demanded of the authorities to convene a meeting of Board of governors to sort out the issue in the light of the judgment of Peshawar High Court. He set aside the allegations of some members of Christian community of Pakistan that the issue was politicized for some vested interests and Governor Shah Farman of the province and the Government of KPK had been threatening the Principal of Edward College Brig(R) Nair Ferdous, appointed in 2014, for the custody of the institute, as the Governor’s involvement had been replaced by the Church Authority.
DR Gulzar strongly condemned the propaganda of some members of Christian Community by using the religion card against the KP government and Governor and prevails on the concerned quarters to expose such elements.
