PESHAWAR— Muskan got married to a Chinese man Su Benji in April 2019 in a local marriage hall in Peshawar.
Her mother Farida Bibi while sharing the details with this scribe lamented that Muskan is among the hundreds Pakistani women, mostly from the minority Christian community, who Pakistani authorities fear have become victim to a bride trafficking racket run by a Chinese gang.
She alleged that her relative Lubna Bibi was hand in glove with some Chinese men who were involved in bride trafficking and their fate turn into ordeal when they are being subjected to prostitution.
According to Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA “gangs of Chinese criminals are trafficking Pakistani women in the garb of marriage into the sex trade” . China has refuted that Pakistani women are being trafficked into prostitution, saying that “several media reports have contrived facts and spread rumors”.
An upsurge in cases of alleged bride trafficking from Pakistan to China has come amid an unparalleled influx of tens of thousands of Chinese nationals into the country. China is investing billions of dollars in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a network of ports, roads, railways and energy projects.
Christian women, who come from a generally poor and marginalized community – are seen to be particularly targeted by traffickers, who pay their parents hundreds or thousands of dollars.
She said, her daughter lives with Chinese husband in Islamabad, and there are news circulating on Social Media and TV channels that these Chinese Men marry these innocent girls and take them to china for sex trade and their lives were in danger.
She demanded of the government to look into the matter and the culprits should be brought to book as she being a mother has been undergoing a mental agony for the last two months.
