PESHAWAR—Due to lacking of proper law pertained to combating of domestic violence, violent acts especially killing of women incidents are on rise in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Late on Tuesday night, a female dancer and singer Meena was shot dead by husband in Mingora city of Swat district, which is considered second violent act in a period of four days.
Mingora police revealed that Shaukat Ali opened fire at his wife, Meena, over a domestic issue, leaving her seriously injured. “She was taken to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The incident took place just before Iftar, said police.
On may 4, a female dancer was shot dead by husband in Bashirabad Peshawar. Over nine women, mostly singers, artists and dancers have been killed during current calendar year in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Saima Muneer an activist associated with Aurat Foundation said that due to lacking of proper law violent acts against women increasing day by day. She recalled the bill was earlier passed by provincial cabinet is now pending before the provincial assembly due to a minor objection. However, law minister Sultan Muhammad Khan said that now the bill is ready for passage before the assembly and it might be tabled after the budget session in the house. He said that so far members from both the sides moved several amendments in the bill, which might be put for debate and considered whenever the bill moved for passage before the august house.
