PESHAWAR— The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Friday issued Sehat Insaf Cards to transgender to provide them best free treatment facilities across the province.
Under the Sehat Insaf Scheme, every transgender of the province will receive free medical treatment worth of Rs 400,000 in private or government-run-hospitals, emergency and trauma, all kinds of fractures, head and spinal injuries as well as joint replacement surgeries.
Moreover, the Sehat Insaf card will give free-of-cost coverage for HIV/AIDS and all types of cancers.
In this regards, the Transaction Alliance with the support of Blue Veins, a local Non-government organization, organized a ceremony at Peshawar Press Club where ruling party MPA Rabia Basri has distributed Sehat Insaf Card among transgender.
Farzana Jan, the President of the TransAction Alliance on the occasion said “ under Transgender Person’s Protection of Rights Act 2018, it is illegal to deny health care services to transgender community across Pakistan, however many transgender people continue to face discrimination in health care and coverage.
Qamar Naseem, Transgender Rights Activist and program Coordinator Blue Veins, a local NGO appreciated the efforts of Secretary Social Welfare, Secretary Health, Director Social Welfare, for their efforts and commitment to empower transgender community. He said, “Providing Trans-inclusive health coverage is critical for the transgender community. The transgender population continues to face major challenges in accessing and obtaining appropriate health care.
Taimur Kamal, Coordinator Pakhtunkhwa Civil Society Network (PCSN) said “the health cards would help alleviate poverty, support and safeguard the poor segments of the society by improving their access to health care services”.
Transgender community and civil society activists specially thanked Senator Rubeena Khalid, Farhatullah Babar, Nighat Yasmeen Orakzai, Mushtaq Ghani, Rabia Busri and other legislatoures for raising voices for the uplift of transgender community.
