PESHAWAR: Speakers at the awareness seminar urged the people to be vigilant before giving charity so that charity reaches to the most deserving and stop its flow to militants and terrorists as well.

The seminar, arranged by Federal Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage in collaboration with its implementation partner Icarus Incorporated, was attended by the journalists and human rights activists .

In the wake of growing threats of terrorism in the country, it is the prime responsibility of every citizen to be vigilant before giving charity so it may not end up in wrong hands, said participants of a seminar.

Professor Dr. Qibla Ayaz, Chairman Council of Islamic Ideology was the chief guest among others speakers including Dr Fakhrul Islam (HoD Peshawar University), Saqib Chamkani (Former MPA), Hafiz Munir (Deputy Secretary Social Welfare) , Zahid (Pakistan Peace Collective) , Taimoor Ali Shah (President Peshawar Bar Association) and Yasir Mehmood (Icarus Incorporated) spoke on the occassion.

The speakers said that billions of rupees are generated every year in the country through donations can only benefit deserving and poor segments of society when people offer charity to recognized organizations.

“When you gamble with safety you bet your life, so it is essential for everyone to be very vigilant while giving charity as it may end up in the wrong hands” said the speaker who participated in the session.

Speaking on the occassion Ahsan Hamid Durrani, Manager Research Icarus Incorporated said that the common people have a vital role to play in sensitizing the citizens on the practice of safer charity. It is pertinent for the people to be aware of the issue, he said, adding that Pakistan is among the nation across world where people do charity on large scale but people had little knowledge about the seriousness of the issue that where their charity was actually going.

The focus of the sessions was on sensitizing the people on the issue of safe charity practices and to encourage them to play their part in creating awareness among the society.
