PESHAWAR—The Pakhtoon Tahafuz Movement (PTM) historical public rally at Miranshah headquarter of North Waziristan has made surprising not only the government circles but also leaders of other political parties, public opinion makers and analysts as well.
The PTM rally was though attended by a large number of people from rest of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and adjacent areas of Baluchistan but majority of them were from parts and parcels of North Waziristan. The unprecedented participation of local tribesmen confirm their dis-appointment over acts and action of government and other state organs, especially security agencies.
Beside other’s the PTM rally was also attended by Pakistan People’s Party central leader and ex-Senator Farhat Ullah Babar. Who after attending the meeting and witnessing historical enthusiasm, in a tweet message states, “My take away from Miranshah jalsa today; Ostrich like attitude or denouncing PTM as unpatriotic, traitor will boomerang. Engage them, listen to them, put balm on wounds. The country belongs to all citizens, not only to those wielding guns or carrying religious books on heads. Taliban may be regrouping mysteriously in N & S Waziristan. Not because they have popular support. Taliban regrouping is engineered by those wishing to silence voices of dissent, of protests, of rights crying aloud enough is enough. It is claimed that militancy has ended. Then why are the inmates of IDP camp in Baka Khel in N Waziristan not allowed to go homes. Are they being punished for first crossing into Afghanistan for safety when operation was launched? Suspected of being Afghan agents?. A central issue is this. The security establishment expects robust applause for ending militancy in Waziristan. The youth has shot back, No sir we will not applaud .Taliban are regrouping mysteriously. Tell us who is behind it. Need for dialogue to bridge gap.”
Former Chief Secretary and ex Ambassador to Afghanistan Rustam Shah Mohmand said that PTM’s demands are genuine and government needs to talk and engage them. He added tribesmen who are against of merger also extending support to PTM.
Mohsin Dawar MNA from North Waziristan and PTM leader said,” until acceptance of genuine demands PTM will go ahead with arranging such type of rallies throughout the country. He said they are ready to talks with government established parliamentary committee.
PTI MNA from Khyber Agency Iqbal Afridi said that committee is going to fix a schedule for talks with PTM leaders in coming a few days. He said that government is determined to address all genuine demands of PTM.
The PTM arranged the big power show in North Waziristan at the time when Election Commission of Pakistan has finalized all arrangements for pilling 21 provincial assembly seats. Ruling PTI leaders are eyeing on maximum of these seats and the PTM activism has made disheartened leaders and stalwarts of other opposition parties. Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief Minister Mahmood Khan have made frequent visits to new tribal districts in recent past. Almost of provincial ministers have also been assigned the tasks to earn hearts of tribesmen at this stage.
