PESHAWAR—The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has produced more than two thousand PhD scholars in various fields during the last ten years.
A report presented to the upper house of the parliament by Higher Education Commission of Pakistan shows that KP has produced more than two thousand PhD scholars during the last ten years out of them 495 scholars got their education from foreign universities while the rest 1545 scholars completed their PhDs from local universities.
According to report, a total numbers of 2160 Pakistani students have completed their PhDs in various fields during the last ten years from foreign universities in which KP remained second with 495 students whereas Sindh third with 494. Punjab and federal capital Islamabad jointly produced 1019 PhD scholars and remained on top.
Out of 1019, according to report, 882 are those who completed their PhD in Engineering and Technology, 442 in Physics, 153 in Agriculture and Veterinary Science, 59 in Arts and Humanities and 91 in Business Education.
According to the documents, a total of 11991 students including 7997 male and 3994 female students have completed their PhD degrees from Higher Education Commission’s recognized universities during the last ten years.
The report further says that Punjab produced 4999 PhDs, Islamabad 3024, Sindh 2300 whereas KP produced 1545 and remained fourth. Whereas, Azad Kashmir produced 66 PhD scholars, Balchistan 54 and Gilgit Baltistan produced only 3 PhD scholars during the said period.
