Father allegedly kill transgender person in Nowshera

PESHAWAR—A transgender person identified as Aftab alias Maya was allegedly killed by his father along with close relatives and dumped the dead body on road side near Khat Qila area in Nowshehra. The dead body of deceased was found on Sunday morning.

Peshawar Today has learnt that a day earlier, the Hashtnaghri Police Station under a written agreement had handed over Maya without his consent to his father and uncle. Maya was living in Hashtanaghri and when his father and uncle came to took him, he refused and rushed to police station begging for security as he feared he will be killed if he went with him.
SP Amanullah confirmed to Peshawar Today that he was handed over to his father and uncle after agreement on Saturday.

Reacting to his killing, Taimor Kamal, Pakhtunkhwa Civil Society Coordinator, told Peshawar Today that Maya’s father and uncle on Saturday reached Peshawar take him with themselves. However, Aftab was reluctant and he attempted to get support of local police. The local police on getting guarantee from his father let Aftab go with them without his consent.

Taimor Kamal said that before reaching home, father and uncle killed Aftab and dumped the dead body on road side. Now the dead body was handed over to transgender community in Peshawar. Taimor has termed the act as honor killing. Later the dead body was handed over by Nowshehra Police to mother and sister on trans. Nowshehra police has registered a case. So far father of Maya was arrested whereas uncle is still at large.

According to TransAction Pakistan, More than 65 transgenders have been killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since 2015 whereas more than 1500 cases of violence, rape, physical torture, and sexual abuses have been reported.
