111 Pakistan security forces killed in four months in terror attacks

PESHAWAR— At least two soldiers were martyred in an attack on security forces in South Waziristan District, Pakistan Army’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The terrorist attack took place in the Sararogha area of the South Waziristan on Tuesday evening, according to the statement.

Terrorists opened fire on the security forces in the Sararogha area of the tribal district. The troops promptly responded to the attack but during the “intense exchange of fire”, two soldiers were martyred while fighting gallantly, the ISPR added.

The martyred soldiers were identified as 26-year-old Lance Naik Umar Ali Khan, a resident of Bannu, and 23-year-old Sepoy Muhammad Sirajud Din, a resident of Dera Ismail Khan.

“The area clearance is underway to eliminate any terrorists found in the area,” the ISPR stated.

“Pakistan Army is determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve,” it said.

Since the Afghan Taliban’s return to power, the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) looks stronger than before and ramped up its attacks on Pakistani security forces from its sanctuaries in Afghanistan. In December, TTP walked out the one-month ceasefire agreement with Pakistan accusing Islamabad of not fulfilling the promises.

Last week, on April 23, three security forces were killed in a terrorists attack inside from Afghanistan in Dewagar area of North Waziristan.

Pakistan’s attempts to convince the Taliban to expel the TTP leadership from Afghanistan or forced them to stop cross-border attacks have failed to yield any results. In fact, the Taliban have not made any substantial efforts to contain the TTP or prevent it from attacking Pakistan. Though, the Taliban and the TTP are two distinct groups, with separate leadership, but the are allied and their ideologies are similar, therefore, Afghan Taliban are relucted to force TTP to not carry out attacks on security forces of Pakistan.
